Roots-centered fiddler and pianist Troy MacGillivray  from Cape Breton will return to Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St., Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

MacGillivray’s musical prowess can be attributed to an especially rare combination of commitment and bloodline. By age 6, he was already impressing audiences with his step dancing skills; by 13, he was teaching piano at the renowned Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts in St. Anne’s, Cape Breton. MacGillivray’s 2008 CD “Live At The Music Room” was named ECMA Instrumental Recording of the Year. His latest project, “When Here Meets There,” offers a terrific collaboration with Canadian and U.S. National Fiddle Champion Shane Cook and both fiddlers are at the top of their game.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or online at unitymaine.org. Next up at the Centre is Celtic vocal artist Lewis MacKinnon Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. ($15). The Barra MacNeils will perform Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are $25, $12.50 for children. For more information, call 948-7469 or visit the Centre website.
