The Center for Maine Contemporary Art will offer See/Write/Into, a gallery writing workshop with Linda Buckmaster for writers of any genre or experience, Saturday, Nov. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. at CMCA, 162 Russell Ave., Rockport.

Participants will respond to CMCA’s current exhibitions and installations — as well as to readings, writing prompts and discussion — to create new writing. The fee for the workshop is $40. To register, call CMCA at 236-2875; for questions about the class, contact Buckmaster at

The workshop offers an opportunity to invigorate one’s writing or even to just start it, said Buckmaster.

“CMCA’s wide range of conceptual exhibitions will open the senses and imaginations, encouraging personal experimentation,” she said.

Current exhibitions include contemporary, nontraditional interpretations of the quilt by Gabriella D’Italia and George Mason; wire “quilts” and “drawings” by Ellen Wieske; a sound installation by Zach Poff  and N.B. Aldrich; and videos, photographs and sculptural objects by performance artist Deborah Wing-Sproul.

The workshop will be a relaxed environment where beginners as well as experienced writers can try new writing. Buckmaster said she likes to say it is open to dabblers, experimenters, and established writers alike who are looking to energize their work.

Buckmaster is a published poet, journalist, essayist and fiction writer. She has published three chapbooks of poetry, and her work has appeared in Maine and national journals. Former Poet Laureate of Belfast, she has taught in the University of Maine system for 17 years. For the past three years, she has curated the art and poetry collaborations for the Belfast Poetry Festival. She has an MA in Communication and an MFA in Creative Writing, and she is currently working on a collection of essays.

The Center for Maine Contemporary Art is a nonprofit organization advancing contemporary art in Maine through exhibitions and educational programs. The current exhibitions run through Dec. 11. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, visit
