The third annual Thomas F. Chester Frozen 5-Kilometer Road Race will take place Saturday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m., during Christmas by the Sea weekend, at the Point Lookout Resort and Conference Center.

Racers should register by 9 a.m. The course will start at the bottom of the mountain and wind through the resort complex to the summit before it turns and heads back to the base of the resort.

Forty-plus runners ran last year and there are prizes for winners. The first 50 entrants will receive a t-shirt.

The race is organized by the West Bay Rotary Club of Camden. The race, in memory of Thomas F. Chester, will benefit Augie’s Quest, an ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosi) charitiy.

A runner in high school, “Big Tom” lost his battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in June 2009.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, eventually leading to death. There is no cure for the disease and there is no recovery.
