The Mount View High School junior varsity field hockey team, much like its varsity counterparts, had a tremendous season this fall, compiling a 9-1-2 record under the tutelage of coach Wendy Trafton.

The team scored 19 goals, while surrendering only five, demonstrating to varsity coach Gloria Hewett the squad certainly will have a handful of players ready to make the jump next year.

Team members for Mount View were Hailey Davis, Mykenna Grotton, Larissa Hannan, Lindsay Morong, Ellie Peaslee, Anna Tsomides, Dinah Bilodeau, Ali Bryant, Allyson Clary, Brook Colcord, Zoe Felton, Alex Fowler, Brittany Moody, Megan Muther, Jacki Nadeau, Kaytlyn Porter, Lauren Richards, Sierra Roberts, Austyn Thomas, Kassey Thompson, Hannah Towle and Darian Wren.

Clary led the ‘Stangs with seven goals, while Richards had three goals and three assists. Bilodeau, Muther and Bryant all had goalie saves on the season for Mount View.

Trafton said her team “worked very hard all season long” and that the team “never gives up.” A perfect example of that hard work was the squad’s third game of the season against Winslow as the Mustangs rallied to tie the contest with 10 seconds left on a score by Grotton.

After going 1-1-1 to start the campaign, with a win over Mount Blue of Farmington, a loss to Nokomis of Newport and the tie with the Black Raiders of Winslow, the Mustangs went unbeaten the rest of the way with victories over Erskine Academy of South China, Morse of Bath, Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston, Waterville, Gardiner, Camden Hills, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield and Belfast, along with a scoreless tie with Leavitt of Turner.
