Those who live in or near the downtown area are being warned to keep their cars locked in response to several vehicle break-ins that occurred sometime during the overnight hours of Saturday, Nov. 26.
Belfast Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said six or seven vehicles were entered during that time span, and it appeared the thefts were in the areas of Congress and Cedar streets as well as a few nearby side streets.
An iPod was pilfered from one of the vehicles, but Cunningham said the majority of the thefts involved loose change and that all of the impacted vehicles had something in common.
“They were all unlocked,” he said.
Cunningham advised drivers to keep vehicles locked and to avoid keeping any valuables inside.
Anyone with information about the vehicle break-ins is asked to call police at 338-5255.
