Bradford Bryant Brown, Doctor of veterinary medicine, died Dec. 2, 2011 at Monadnock Community Hospital after a short illness. He was 82 years old. He resided most recently at Pheasantwood nursing home in Peterborough, N.H.

Dr. Brown was born in Vassalboro, on June 15, 1929, the fourth child of Hazle Crosby and Philip Raymond Brown. He and his five siblings grew up on a family farm during the Great Depression.

Following in the footsteps of his eldest brother, Philip R. Brown Jr., Brad became a veterinarian. He attended the University of Maine and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.

After graduating, he joined his brother’s veterinary practice in Belfast, and eventually started his own animal hospital. He described his adventures with farm animals over the course of his 40-year career in two recent books, “While You’re Here, Doc” and “Just One More Thing, Doc” (Tilbury Press).

Dr. Brown is survived by three siblings, Ormonde L. Brown of Wilmington, Mass., Adelaide Bohlander of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Neal C. Brown of Greenfield, N.H. He leaves three children, Jane Roy Brown of Conway, Mass., Jeffrey P. Brown of Peterborough, N.H., and Laurah J. Brown of Vassalboro; and his grandchildren, Jessica L. Brown of Bennington, N.H., Sarah Vanderhoof of Lyndeborough, N.H., Samantha Rule of Peterborough, N.H., Dakota Koenig of Raleigh, N.C., and Julius Koenig of Vassaboro. Dr. Brown also lived to enjoy two great-grandchildren, Ezra Faucher of Peterborough and Lydia Vanderhoof of Lyndeborough.

There will be no calling hours and no formal service. A memorial service will be held in Maine at a date to be determined and announced at a later date.
