Through the first four games of the season, the Waldo County Crush girls youth basketball team is living up to its name.

The Crush, which plays in the Eastern Maine Basketball 7th- and 8th-Grade League, picked up a 47-32 win over Holden Dec. 4 at Point Lookout in Northport, lifting the squad to a 4-0 record on the young season.

The league has a 10-game schedule and the Crush have six games remaining. The team plays one game per week, with the postseason beginning Saturday, Jan. 28.

The following is a recap of the team’s most recent two contests:

Crush 47, Holden 32 … At Northport Dec. 5, Crush raced to a large first-quarter lead and never looked back, coming away with a 15-point victory. Crush led 14-2, 26-6 and 36-15 at the quarter breaks.

For Waldo County, Melinda Ogden netted 14 points, while Anna Bucklin added 13; Ari Curtis, 10; Kaitlyn Shute, seven; Karigen Coffin, two; and Megan Elkins, one.

The Crush shot 9-of-16 from the charity stripe, while Holden shot 5-of-14.

Full names for Holden’s scorers were unavailable.

Crush 58, Orono 20… At Orono Nov. 27, the Crush dominated from the opening tip to the final buzzer and won in convincing fashion. Crush led 19-11 at halftime, as the game was played in two 16-minute halves.

Ogden poured in 24 points to lead the Crush, while Shute added 14; Bucklin, eight; Elkins and Maris Taungatu’a, both four; and Nicole Hall and Harley Kirk, both two.

For Orono, Hannah Clement netted six points, while Daphne Murphy added four; Lizzie White and Becky L’Anido, both three; and Lydia Chase and Chelsea Hall, both two.

Crush was 1-of-7 from the foul line, while Orono converted 8-of-18 free throws.
