It was just the kind of start to the new season one team hoped for but not quite what the other squad was looking for in Friday night’s court battle between Waldo County and Knox County Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B high school girls basketball opponents.

Camden Hills got off to a sizzling start to the new campaign, while host Mount View struggled, as the visiting Windjammers rolled to a 64-23 victory.

The Windjammers outscored the Mustangs 50-20 from 2-point range and 12-0 from 3-point land. Mount View held a 3-2 edge in fouls shots.

Eight of the nine Windjammers who saw action got into the scoring column, led by Jordan Knowlton with 21 points; Sarah Steele, 16; Taylor Porter, eight; Jackay Richards and Laura Johanson, both six; Megan Legage three; and Caroline Matteo and Marina French, both two. Camden Hills made 2-of-5 free throws (40 percent).

Knowlton and Richards both drilled two treys for the visitors.

For Mount View, Wendy Gibbs netted nine points; Anna Piotti, seven; LeeAnn Larrabee, Kaitlin Leavitt and Alexis Morse, all two; and Janelle Thornley, one. The Mustangs made 3-of-6 free throws (50 percent).

Camden Hills also won the jayvee game 38-32.
