First-time college students residing in Waldo County who are interested in a taking a course at the Hutchinson Center can now apply for funds to cover the cost of that class.

The Maine Community Foundation is offering the Ira M. Cobe Fund Scholarship of $500 to residents who are high-school graduates and under the age of 23. The scholarship is for a first-time student, with preference given to those who are taking one class to explore the possibility of furthering their education. Student applicants for whom a scholarship would make a significant difference in their ability to attend the Hutchinson Center will also be given preference, according to MCF officials.
