After dropping their first games of the 2011-12 season to Camden Hills Dec. 9, the Mount View boys and girls basketball teams looked to make a mark in their respective win columns Tuesday night against Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

And while the Mustang girls enjoyed the luxury of their home court in Thorndike, it was the Mustang boys who picked up their first win of the year on the road in Pittsfield.

The Mount View boys went on a 20-6 run in the fourth quarter to pull away with a 51-31 victory, while the Mount View girls could not dig out of an early first-quarter hole and fell 39-32 to the Huskies.

Mount View boys 51, Maine Central Institute 31 … At Pittsfield, the Mustangs (1-1) pulled away from the host Huskies (0-2) in the fourth quarter en route to their first win of the year. Mount View, which led 17-5, 27-14 and 31-25 at the quarter breaks, outscored MCI 20-6 in the final eight minutes.

Chris Montminy netted 14 points to lead the ‘Stangs, while Craig Neally added nine; Taylor Reynolds, seven; Bob Porter and Jay Babin, both six; Nathan Wren and Ryan St. Clair, both four; Steven Davis, two; and Brody Gibbs, one.

For MCI, Adam Ogden paced the offense with 11 points, while Nick Daetz added seven.

Mount View netted 11-of-29 (38 percent) free-throw attempts, while MCI converted 8-of-24 (33 percent).

Maine Central Institute girls 39, Mount View 32 … At Thorndike, the Huskies (1-1) grabbed a first-quarter lead and the Mustangs (0-2) never recovered as the hosts dropped their second game of the campaign. MCI led 13-2, 25-10 and 34-26 at the quarter breaks.

Janelle Thornley poured in 19 points to lead Mount View, while Anna Piotti added seven and Wendy Gibbs six for the Waldo-based squad.

For the Huskies, Ashley Kitchen netted 12 points, while Sarah Bennett and Brianna Losee each added eight; Kylee Alton and Katherine Smedberg, both four; Allie Sinclair, two; and Katie Conkite, one.

The Huskies were 2-of-5 (40 percent) from the foul line, while the Mustangs were 5-of-19 (26 percent).
