The Mount View seventh- and eighth-grade boys travel basketball team has reached the midpoint of its regular season with a perfect 6-0 record. The team, coached by Steve Pomerleau and Wally Furrow, competes in the Eastern Maine Basketball League and is the only undefeated squad in the 15-team B Division.

Team members include eighth-graders Alex Bennett, Mikey Hustus, Justin Lizotte, Tyler Ripley and Gavin Simpson, and seventh-graders Joey Danna, Devon Davis, Colby Furrow, C.J. Ingraham, Emmett Shell and Jared Taylor.

Three times this season Mount View has recovered from halftime deficits to pull out wins, including an exciting victory against Blue Hill Nov. 20 in which Mount View tied the game with a long 3-point shot by Shell at the buzzer to force overtime. Mount View went on to win the game 54-52. Scoring for Mount View were Lizotte with 23 points, Shell 13, Hustus 11, Davis five and Danna two.

Mount View’s most recent win came at the expense of Orono-Veazie, and also was a come-from-behind victory. After two overtimes, Mount View came out on top 63-57. High scorer for the winners were Ripley with 18 points, followed by Hustus and Lizotte, both 14; Shell, 11; Simpson, five; and Furrow, one.

On Dec. 4, Mount View defeated Waldo County-neighbor Searsport 61-30. Top scorer for Mount View was Shell with 11 points, followed by Furrow and Bennett, each eight; Lizotte, seven; Simpson, Taylor and Hustus, all six; Danna and Davis, both four; and Ingraham, one.

Scoring for Searsport were Troy Reynolds with 10 points; Bryce Shorey, six; Eric Phillips, five; Barrett Grant, three; and Kyle Moore, Mitchell Philbrook and Brayden Perkins, all two. Also playing for Searsport this season are Cody Parks, Dean Evans, Dustin Corriveau and Caleb Ackley. The team is coached by Amber Stanhope.

Results of other games for Mount View this season include:

Mount View 55, Mount Desert Island 35 … On Nov. 12. Hustus scored 17 points; Simpson, eight; Furrow, seven; Danna, six; Shell, five; and Bennett, Davis and Lizotte, all four to pace the winners.

Mount View 42, Ellsworth 35 … On Nov. 12. Davis tallied 13 points, while Shell added 10, Hustus seven, Furrow six, Lizotte four and Simpson two for the victors.

Mount View 63, Dexter 36 … On Nov. 26. Shell pumped in 18 points; Lizotte, 13; Hustus, 10; Davis and Furrow, both seven; Taylor, four; and Danna and Ingraham, both two in Mount View’s victory.

Mount View has four regular-season games remaining and then will participate in the playoffs.
