Islesboro and Searsport played high school basketball games over the weekend, but neither Waldo County school could match opponents and suffered losses.


Vinalhaven 51, Islesboro 30 … At Islesboro Saturday, the Vikings jumped to a lopsided first-quarter lead and coasted to their third win of the young season. Vinalhaven led 16-3, 27-11 and 47-21 at the quarter breaks.

Steven Osgood netted 12 points to key the Vikings (3-1), while Dillon Ames and Byron Thomas each added eight; Brian Stanley, seven; Justin Newton, Austin Christensen and Shane Carlsen, all four; and Noah Slivinsky and Scott James, both two.

For Islesboro (0-3), Cameron Jack tossed in 13 points, while Will Schoppe added six; Charlie Cilley, five; and Kim Kyungmin, Eli Legere and Jack Krajewski, all two.

The Vikings were 1-of-10 (10 percent) from the foul line, while the Eagles were 3-of-9 (33 percent).

Mattanawcook 70, Searsport 32 … At Lincoln Saturday, the Lynx were on the prowl as they clawed past the visiting Vikings (0-3).

Buddy Ellis and Milton Jones each netted eight points in the losing effort, while Dillan Moody added five; Jake Kenniston, Jason Brooks and Shane Seekins, all three; and Austin Bean, two.

For Mattanawcook, Chase Vicaire poured in 29 points, while Matt Vasine and Jacob Pelkey each added 12; Tim Cummings, Aaron Goodine and Nick L’Italien, all four; Cody Macdonald and Trysten Pelkey, both two; and Matt Guiod, one.


Vinalhaven 44, Islesboro 26 … At Islesboro Saturday, the Vikings held the Eagles to one field goal in the first quarter and pulled away late with an 18-point triumph over their fellow islanders. Vinalhaven led 10-2, 18-10 and 32-20 at the quarter breaks.

Ashley Hamilton tallied 14 points for the Vikings (3-1), while Alex Slivinsky added eight; Blake Reidy and Izza Drury, both six; and Eliza Davidson and Abby Jones, both four.

For Islesboro (2-1), Autumn Johnson netted 12 points, while Allana Govoni, Sierra Roy and Krystal Randlett each added four; and Eleanor Snyder, two.

Mattanawcook Academy 61, Searsport 17 … At Lincoln Saturday, the Lynx, who have aspirations to be one of the top teams in Eastern Class C, stormed past the visiting Vikings (0-2) and prevailed by a convincing margin.

Taylor Blood led the Lynx with 12 points, while Taylor Hawkins added 11 and Katie Krapf nine.

For the Vikings, Briana Grant scored five points to lead the way.

The Lynx made 7-of-20 free throws (35 percent), while the Vikings were 3-of-5 (60 percent).

Stearns 58, Searsport 24 … At Searsport Dec. 9, the Vikings could not stop the high-octane Minutemen offense and fell by 34 points.

Taylor Pelkey poured in 20 points for Stearns, while Sigi Koizar added 15.

Grant netted eight points to lead the hosts.

Stearns shot 6-of-18 (33 percent) from the foul line, while Searsport converted 4-of-10 (40 percent).
