The Belfast wrestling team hit the road for the McDonald’s Invitational Dec. 17 and the Lions had a golden opportunity in front of them to see how they stacked up against some of the elite programs in the entire state.

The Lions did not bring home an individual championship, but brought home a bevy of second-, third- and fourth-place finishes to place fourth in the prestigious tourney.

Dirigo of Dixfield nabbed first-place honors, while Fryeburg Academy finished second and Noble third.

The team scores from the Dec. 17 meet were: 1, Dirigo, 162; 2, Fryeburg Academy 153.5; 3 Noble, 121.5; 4, Belfast, 112; 5, Mountain Valley of Rumford, 85; 6, Brewer, 74; 7, Mount Ararat of Topsham, 47; 8, Madison, 45; 9, Lisbon of Lisbon Falls, 38; 10, Oxford Hills of South Paris, 37; 11, Brunswick, 24; 12, Winslow, 22; 13, Edward Little of Auburn, 21; 14, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, 10; 15, Spruce Mountain of Jay/Livermore Falls, 4; and 16, Oak Hill of Sabattus, 1.

The individual results for BAHS wrestlers, with Lions listed first, included:

106 pounds — Colton Ridley was pinned by Mark Zaccadelli, LA, at 1:34; and was pinned by Josh Shull, Mad, at 2:22.

113 pounds — Alec Young won by major decision over Joey Langley, Noble, 14-3; was pinned by Connor Sheehan, Frye, at 3:08; beat Cody Allen, MtA, 9-5; and lost to Eric Holman, 9-0, Dirigo in the consolation final. Young finished fourth.

120 pounds — Evan Drinkwater beat Mark Smith, Bre, 13-3; was pinned by Zach Sheehan, Frye, at 5:39; pinned Jon Hankey, OxH, at 2:01; and pinned Connor Murphy, EL, at 3:20 in the consolation final. Drinkwater finished third.

126 pounds — Walker Roberts pinned Reilly Lombardi, Dir, at 3:06; beat Sheldon Bang, EL, 12-6; and was pinned by Brandon Gill, MtV, in the championship final. Roberts finished second.

132 pounds — Brandon Waterman was pinned by Felipe Gunter, MtA, at 3:15; pinned Hunter Wentowrth, Mad, at 1:59; pinned Tyler Bard, Lis, at 0:50; and was pinned by Gunter, MtA, at 3:43 in the consolation final. Waterman finished fourth.

138 pounds — Curtis Warren pinned by Mike Demarest, Lis, at 3:25; was pinned by Joe Provencher, MtV, at 2:24; pinned Michael Mayberry, Bre, at 2:00; and was pinned by Wyley Lessard, Noble, at 4:55,

145 pounds — Anthony Salibury lost to Robbie Kiah, Bre, 9-2; and was pinned by Julien Baldinelli, Dir, at 1:55.

170 pounds — Ethan Fitzjurls pinned David Moore, Lis, at 0:35; pinned Zack Cross, MtV, at 5:22; and lost by injury default to Nelson Pepin, Dir, in the championship final. Fitzjurls finished second.

182 pounds — Wyatt Roberts pinned Vincent Banks, Bre, at 1:00; pinned Joe Hayden, Mad at 2:49; and was pinned by John Badger, Noble, at 4:15 in the championship final. Roberts finished second.

195 pounds — Peter Kelley pinned Zac Schluntz, Noble, at 0:29; was pinned by Victor Irwin, Bre, at 1:38; pinned Chris Stebner, L.A., at 1:19; and pinned Alex Snowman, Dir, at 3:04 in the consolation final. Kelley finished third.

220 pounds — Frankie Richardson was pinned by Trey Allard, Noble, at 1:44; and lost by forfeit to Derek Leavitt, Frye.
