Police are asking a young woman whom they believe stole $100 worth of Walmart gift cards from a local business to turn herself in.

Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said a Belfast business, which he declined to identify, reported five $20 Walmart gift cards had been taken sometime earlier this month, between Dec. 1 and Dec. 13.

Two of those gift cards, Cunningham said, were found to have been used at the Walmart store in Bangor on Dec. 12. Cunningham said police have obtained security camera footage of a young woman using those gift cards at the store that day.

The woman appears to be in her mid-20’s, Cunningham said, but police have been unable to identify her so far. Four other people are seen with the woman on the security camera footage, according to Cunningham.

Cunningham said the video footage provides a “good shot” of the woman, but said he hoped police would not have to resort to publicizing images from it in order to identify her.

“We’re asking her to come forward and identify herself,” he said.
