The professional Penobscot Theatre Company will hold an open call for all local artists Saturday, Jan. 7 from 2 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main St.

Penobscot Theatre is looking for artists of all types and ages; this will serve as an initial introduction to new artistic director Bari Newport. All local actors, singers, visual artists, craftsmen, designers and artists who are interested in being involved at Penobscot Theatre are strongly encouraged to attend this open call.

Performers must prepare a monologue and/or a song to present. Singers should be prepared to sing their selection a cappella.  All other artists (visual, etc.) should bring a representation of their work to share. All artists should bring a picture and a resume.

Thirty minutes prior to each session, a signup sheet will be in the lobby of the opera house to secure a timeslot. For this open call, there will be no early reservations for timeslots; timeslots can only be obtained on the actual days of the sessions.

Penobscot Theatre also will hold a Town Hall Meeting Monday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Bangor Opera House. This event is free and everyone is welcome to join Newport and outgoing interim artistic director Nathan Halvorson for a lively discussion about the arts and how they function in the greater Bangor area. This meeting will be an excellent chance to learn more about Newport, as well as The Penobscot Theatre in general, as well as an opportunity to share thoughts and ask any burning questions. It is Penobscot Theatre’s intention to make these meetings a semi-regular event that will explore different topics about local arts each time.
