Susan Abbott Farris, 90, died Dec. 22, 2011, at her home in Searsport. She was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Union to Wilbur and Caroline Kelsey Abbott. Susan grew up in Union and attended local schools. She graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in education.

She married Roger P. Farris Sr. and they lived in Kittery and Searsport, retiring to Union in 1982.

Susan taught at Stockton Springs Elementary School for many years. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Maine State Teachers Association. She was an avid reader and was very active in the Vose Library in Union. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crossword puzzles. Her primary focus was her family and friends. She was loved by all.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roger P. Farris Sr. in 1983; and her sister, Isabel Abbott in 2007.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Jane Szabronski and her husband, Gus, of Searsport and Lorraine K. Moore and her husband, Glen, of Old Orchard Beach; sons, Roger P. Farris and his wife, Verlie, of Jefferson and Dale A. Farris and his wife, Cindi, of Cumberland; grandchildren, Susan Fickett of Hampden, Amanda Farris Roberts of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Michael Szabronski of Westminster, Md., Paul Farris of Topsham and Caroline Farris of Cumberland; and six great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Union. Should friends desire, contributions in Susan’s memory may be made to the Vose Library, P.O. Box 550, Union, ME 04862.
