It was a tough Tuesday on the court for Waldo County high school basketball squads, with all four teams in action coming up short in their pursuit of victory.

The Searsport boys dropped a 34-32 decision to host Bucksport, while the Searsport girls were upended by visiting George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 41-35. Also, the Viking girls fell 57-30 to Bucksport Dec. 23.

Additionally, the Islesboro boys and girls hosted Greenville and came up short, with the Eagle boys falling 69-36 and the Eagle girls dropping a 49-16 decision.

Boys basketball

Bucksport 34, Searsport 32 … At Bucksport Dec. 27, the Golden Bucks got hot in the fourth quarter and outscored the hosts 10-4 to escape with a two-point victory. Searsport led 8-4, 14-13 and 28-24 at the quarter breaks.

Shane Seekins netted a game-high 14 points to lead Searsport, while Milton Jones and Buddy Ellis each added eight and Austin Bean two. Jones also pulled down 13 rebounds in the tough-luck loss.

For Bucksport, Josh Gray scored 13 points, while Mitchell Burgess added eight; Mike Cummings, seven; Mat Swazey, four; and Jimmy Osgood, two.

“We battled a good team in Bucksport and we played tough,” said Viking coach Brad Cook, as the Golden Bucks were ranked second in Eastern Class C heading into Tuesday’s game. ” I am really proud of the guys for their effort all night, especially on the defensive end. They hustled, fought hard and were aggressive. A lot of Searsport fans traveled over to the game and they really gave us a supportive boost.”

Burgess scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter for the Golden Bucks with two 3-pointers and two free throws.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class C, Searsport (1-4, 1.6975 points) is 14th, while Sumner of East Sullivan (7-1, 12.8395 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Greenville 69, Islesboro 36 … At Islesboro Dec. 27, the Lakers outscored the Eagles 25-2 in the second quarter and pulled away for their fourth win in five games. Greenville led 15-7, 40-9 and 56-23 at the quarter breaks.

Charlie Cilley poured in 22 points to lead the islanders, while Cameron Jack added six; Eli Legere, four; and Kim Kyungmin and Will Schoppe, both two.

For Greenville, Howard Stone netted 22 points, while Matthew DiAngelo added 10; Tristan Richards, 15; Joseph Pelletier, six; Henry Hersey, three; and Steven Bilodeau and Trevor Richards, both two.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Western Class D, Islesboro (0-6, no points) is 13th, while Valley of Bingham (5-0, 7.5454 points) is first in the 13-team region. The top nine teams qualify for the playoffs.

Girls basketball

Bucksport 57, Searsport 30 … At Searsport Dec. 23, the Golden Bucks went on a 27-0 run in the third quarter and pulled away from the host Vikings. Bucksport led 14-9, 24-19 and 41-24 at the quarter breaks.

Sadie Wight and Mindy Pye each scored 14 points to lead Bucksport.

Briana Grant tallied nine points to pace Searsport.

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class C, Searsport (0-5, no points) is 17th, while Orono (3-2, 9.8765 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.
