Readers are reminded that an arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.

Law enforcement officials with the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent activity:

Dec. 20

Joel E. Williams, 39, of Augusta was summoned for failure to provide proof of insurance.

Dec. 22

Paul J. Ford, 31, of Swanville was charged with violating conditions of release.

James G. Main, 27, of Swanville was summoned for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

Scott Littlefield, 37, no address given, was arrested on warrants for reckless violation of a protection order and domestic assault.

Dec. 21

Lisa Agostini, 47, of Brooks was headed south on Route 7 in Waldo in a 2004 Ford just after 9 a.m. when she approached the intersection of routes 7 and 131. Agostini hit her brakes and lost control on the icy roads. The vehicle went off the right-hand side of the road, skidded into a ditch and rolled over onto its side. The Belfast Ambulance and Rescue Service responded to the scene and treated Agostini for an arm injury. The accident report stated that the crash was caused by fog and mist that created black ice on the road. The responding officer, Deputy Jim Porter, added in his account of the crash that “the operator… had no idea the roadway was icy until she touched her brakes.”

Police were called to a number of accidents in several areas around the county, including a second property-damage accident in Waldo, and another pair of one-car accidents in Morrill and Unity. In Searsmont, a late-morning accident on Route 131 sent a vehicle into a tree and the driver, 32-year-old Abraham O. Salami of Appleton, was examined by attendants with Searsmont Rescue for a possible leg injury.

Dec. 22

Patrick S. Kelley, 64, of Mineral, Va., was traveling west on Troy Road in Burnham in a 2008 Volkswagen when he lost control on the snow-covered road. The vehicle left the right-hand side of the road, spun sideways and struck an apple tree. The car continued skidding across a lawn and struck the porch on the residence of Paul Woodbury. Waldo County Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton said the accident report did not specify whether anyone was home when the vehicle hit the porch, but the officer confirmed no one was hurt in the accident. The accident caused about $2,000 worth of damage to the home and the porch, Trafton said, and the accident report indicated that the Volkswagen was towed due to damage.

Police also responded to another single-vehicle accident in Brooks, to which the Brooks Ambulance service was called to treat the driver, 29-year-old Stanna M. Alton of Jackson, for possible injuries to the chest and stomach.

Dec. 23

Beth A. King, 30, of Morrill was headed south on Rowe Hill Road in Morrill when she reportedly did not stop at the intersection with Weymouth Road and instead traveled across the intersection. The vehicle continued down over an embankment and into a small stream, coming to rest on some small rocks. Belfast Ambulance and Rescue Service responded to the scene and transported King to the Waldo County General Hospital emergency room to be examined for a possible leg injury.

Police also responded to accidents in Jackson and Brooks, and no one was injured in either of those crashes.

Dec. 24

Derek Wilson, 30, of Unity was charged with criminal mischief and with violating probation.

Tyler J. Damon, 20, of Belfast was arrested on charges of violating conditions of release, harassment, terrorizing, assault on an officer, assault and refusing to submit to arrest.
