Robert P. Andersen, 82, of Belfast passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 16, 2012 at Waldo County General Hospital. He was born on April 26, 1929 in Stoneham, Mass. to Henry and Metta (Potter) Andersen.

Robert graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Massachusetts and a master’s in education from Northeastern University. After graduation from college he entered the Air Force and was stationed in Japan, where he later returned to teach at the American School in Japan. Robert also taught at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Mass., and retired in 1996 from the Randolph, Mass. school system as a teacher of mathematics.

He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed Senior College at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast and serving his community on the school boards of SAD 34 and RSU 20 from 2001 to 2011.

Robert was predeceased by his parents and his brother, H. Gardner Andersen.

He is survived by his wife, Sabra Goff Andersen of Belfast; his children, Henry Andersen of Tokyo and Cynthia Blank of San Francisco; two grandchildren, Marcela Andersen and Filipe Andersen; one niece, Jean Murdough; two nephews, Harry Andersen and John Andersen; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
