The purpose of the caucuses, according to party officials, is for attendees to show their preference for one of the candidates seeking the party’s nomination, as well as to elect delegates and alternates to the party’s state convention (to be held in early May in Augusta), elect members of the Waldo County Republican Committee and to organize for the fall elections.

Whichever of the presidential candidates wins the Maine caucuses will be announced at a press conference in Portland on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 11.
