The regular season has drawn to a close for the Mount View wrestling squad, and now the Mustangs must refocus their energy and talent for the upcoming postseason.

The Mustangs finished with a 16-16 regular-season, dual-meet record, an improvement on last year’s 12-13 mark.

While it is not the overall season veteran Mount View coach Hamilton Richards had expected, progress is progress as the Mustangs have improved little by little in terms of team record in each of the past five years.

In Mount View’s final meet of the season Jan. 30 at Sabattus, the Mustangs defeated host Oak Hill 41-18 and lost to Camden Hills 81-0. The Windjammers are favored to win the state Class B title. Additionally, at Waldoboro Jan. 25, the ‘Stangs lost 55-20 to Cony of Augusta, while defeating host Medomak Valley 48-12.

The Mustangs now move on to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championships on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 9:30 a.m. at Cony High School in Augusta. The Western Class C regional will be Saturday, Feb. 11 at Fryeburg Academy and the state Class C championships on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the same venue. Mount View used to compete in Class B and in Eastern regionals, but has switched this year.

The individual records for Mount View athletes this season include: James Blanchette, 24 wins and nine losses; Matt Wheeler, 8-4; Roger Flannery, 22-13; Mark Dolloff, 21-16; Scott Vaillancourt, 5-16; Joel Poulin, 0-4; Gavin Caler, 14-18; Jordan Fowler, 15-16; Tyler Stevenson, 27-10; and Clint Spaulding, 13-10.
