Richard S. Trim, 72, of Littleton, Mass., died Jan. 26, 2012 after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.

Richard was born in Somerville, Mass. on Oct. 23, 1939 to Ralph and Geneva (McLaughlin) Trim. They then returned to Islesboro, where he attended Islesboro High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany where he met his wife of 52 years, Christa (Leiner) Trim. They settled in West Newton, Mass. initially, and then moved to Littleton, Mass. in 1972 where they raised their family. Richard earned his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University.

In addition to his wife, Christa, Richard is survived by his sister, Janice Ryder of Belfast; his brother, James of Swampscott, Mass.; his sons, Stanley and his wife, Waltraut, of Leominster, Mass., Christopher and his wife, Jean, of West Newbury, Mass., and Eric of Littleton, Mass.

Richard was a loving grandfather to Kurt, Nick, Sarah, Austin and Robert.

He also leaves a niece, Linda; a nephew, Scott; his wife’s family in Germany; and several lifelong, close friends including Moses and Nadine Raymond.

Burial will be in Islesboro in the spring. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Islesboro Community Fund, PO Box 166, Islesboro, ME 04848 or the American Cancer Society.
