An arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Law enforcement officials with Troop D of the Maine State Police responded to the following incidents in Waldo County between Jan. 30 and Feb. 12. Anyone with information regarding ongoing investigations is asked to call 1-800-452-4664.

Jan. 29

Trooper Corey Smith stopped a speeding vehicle on Route 1A in Stockton Springs and the operator, Jennifer Wright, 31 of Princeton, was found to be in possession of marijuana. She was summoned for the offense.

Feb. 2

Trooper Jonathan Russell stopped a vehicle on Pitcher Road in Belfast for a brake light defect. Heather Huisman, 29, reportedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening. Huisman was subsequently arrested for operating under the influence and taken to the Waldo County Jail.

Feb. 3

Maine State Police troopers and Sgt. Dale Brown of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office conducted a bail check on James Hill, 23, at his residence in Searsport. Hill was arrested for Class C violating conditions of release.

Trooper Bethany Couturier stopped an oncoming vehicle on Northport Avenue in Belfast that was traveling 60 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. Jacob Grass, 26, of Belfast was arrested and summoned for operating under the influence, operating without a license and criminal speed.

Feb. 7

Trooper Smith assisted the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office in Winterport with a K-9 track of a wanted subject. Trooper Smith and K-9 Freyja tracked a male and located him hiding in the crawlspace under the home. He was taken into custody by deputies without incident and delivered to the jail.

Feb. 8

Maine State Police responded to a burglary complaint in Montville. The property is currently under foreclosure and the copper piping in the basement had been removed. The investigation continues.

Feb. 11

Troopers Smith and Benjamin Sweeney handled reports of six motor vehicle crashes between 4:45 and 8:15 p.m., most of them a result of slick roads due to light snow accumulation.

Trooper Stephen Morrell stopped a vehicle for speeding on Fenwick Road in Belmont. Operator Devin Richards, 19, was charged with speed and illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor. The passenger, 21-year-old Robert Cushman was charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana.

Feb. 12

Trooper Morrell responded to Highland Drive in Liberty for a reported burglary. The complainant reported that sometime within the past three weeks someone entered his residence and stole some of his belongings. The investigation is ongoing.
