Richard (Dick) C. Jose, 89, died on Feb. 21, 2012. He was born on May 1, 1922 in Waterville, a son of Roland W. Jose and Leah (Weeks) Jose.

He graduated from Waterville High School, then joined the Army Air Forces (the predecessor of the Air Force) in 1941 and served in England and France until the war ended in 1945. In 1945, he married Geraldine Wood and they resided in Vassalboro until 1969. They then moved to Stockton Springs, which is where they started and ran a laying hen business that operated until 1978. After that, they started a commercial greenhouse, which was later relocated to Thorndike.

Dick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jerry, of Unity; children, Patrice Allen and her husband Bill of Unity, Alison Enslin of Milbridge, and Richard A. Jose and his wife Mary of Vassalboro; a sister, Faith Simpson of Winslow; five grandchildren, Nathan Allen, Kathryn Gibbs, Jessica Clark, Nicholas Jose and Jody Jose; and great-grandchildren, Anna Gibbs, Will Gibbs and Keegan Clark. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Russell Jose; a grandson, Jacob Enslin; and a son-in-law, Theodore Enslin.

Dick was always interested in his family and their activities and loved them all dearly. We will all miss him.

The family wishes to thank the staff and doctors at Thayer Campus of Maine General Hospital and at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta for their care over the last few weeks.

There will be a private memorial service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, people who wish to do so may make contributions to a charity of their choice.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at directcremationofmaine.com.
