Frank S. Nickerson, 56, of Lincolnville, passed away Feb. 24, 2012 at his home from a long illness of cancer. He was born in Massachusetts on Feb. 9, 1956 to Ed Nickerson and Caroline A. Wing (Heroux).

Mr. Nickerson worked for the town of Fairfield for many years and then the Kennebec Water District. He lived most of his childhood life in Belfast. He was a dedicated father and friend who loved the outdoors including fishing, hunting and camping. He also took pride in working in his garden.

Frank was a big fan of the Red Sox and New England Patriots. His greatest gift was making others laugh. He was a man with not so many words, but it was the little things he did for others that made them know just how much he cared.

Frank was predeceased by his father, Ed Nickerson; a brother, Charles R. Kimball; and a brother-in-law, Carleton Mitchell.

He is survived by his mother, Caroline A. Heroux; his fiancee, Joni Dyer; his two sons, James S. Nickerson and Dean Pushard; two daughters, Heidi L. Nickerson and her life partner Rayann Nickerson, and Caroline E. Nickerson.

He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Maddison Nickerson, Tristan Nickerson, Charity Eccleston, Dominic Eccleston and Tanisha Nickerson; his two brothers, Ed Nickerson and Roy Nickerson; three sisters, Debbie Mitchell, Nickie Nickerson and Valerie Nickerson; his step-brothers and sister, Wallace, Jeffrey and Nadine Kimball-Dyer; and several nieces and nephews. Frank was also survived by a few of his life-long friends, Doug McAvey, Bruce Dyer and Alec and Carolyn Reynolds.

The children would like to take this time to also thank Joni Dyer for standing beside our father in his time of need as well as others who took the time to care for him during his last days.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. at the residence at Route 1, 3 Dyer Drive, in Lincolnville. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast. Online condolences may be offered to the family at ripostafh.com. Those who wish may make donations to the family c/o Roy Nickerson, 10 Davey Road, Warren, ME 04864.
