Waterfall Arts, 256 High St., has scheduled spring workshops and classes in Coptic bookbinding; creating artistic journals; and a new series of low-tech printmaking techniques called Kitchen Table Printmaking.

Artist Abbie Read will lead a workshop Saturday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. where participants will make their own books using the Coptic binding technique. Cost is $30, which includes materials. Read also will share her method of making unique artistic journals in a four-part class meeting Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 20 through May 11. Cost is $95 plus $20 for materials. She will demonstrate how to illustrate and embellish pages to create personal meaning using painting, printing, collage and transfer and layering techniques.

The Kitchen Table Printmaking Series is based on the idea that printmaking does not have to involve lots of specialized equipment and training. Beautiful and complex prints can be made using common materials such as wood, gelatin or cardboard. Waterfall Arts offers four Saturday workshops led by print artists where participants will learn different yet very accessible methods for creating inexpensive prints at home. Appropriate for those age 12 through adult, the workshops will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Waterfall Arts in Belfast, unless otherwise noted. The cost is $60 each, plus material fees. Enrollment is limited and a 15 percent discount is available for those signing up for two or more workshops.

The schedule is: April 28, Gelatin Prints with Laurie Adams (held at her Camden studio); May 5, White Line Woodblock Prints with Willy Reddick; May 12, RE-PRINT — Alternative Printing Methods with Cardboard with artists ras + e (Ryan Shelley and Elizabeth Herrmann); and May 19, Reduction Woodblock Prints with Martha Briana.
