Residents of all ages gathered at the Lincolnville Community Building on Saturday, March 31 to participate in the 10th annual Pysanky egg decorating party.

Pysanky is a traditional Ukrainian decorating technique that requires the use of wax and dye through alternating processes. The melted wax is applied to create a desired pattern, preserving the pigment beneath as the egg is dyed beginning with the lightest color. Layers of dye and wax are added to enrich the colors and create intricate patterns. The wax is melted off using a candle and a good deal of patience, revealing the unique design beneath. Julie Turkevich of Lincolnville has provided materials and tutelage since the inception of the event, which is free to the public.
