A new hair salon in downtown Belfast — Glow — plans to host a grand opening Monday, April 16. Owner Kimberly Riposta said she and another stylist will offer a wide range of hair services, including extensions, as well as manicures and pedicures of all kinds.

“We want to keep it simple,” Riposta said. “But it’s not your average salon.”

Clients will be treated to “stress relief” — a complimentary shoulder, neck and scalp massage — during the grand opening as well as before regular appointments at the salon.

Monday, Riposta noted construction of the salon had only been underway for about a week, pointing to freshly painted walls and new equipment installed during that time. Workers were planning to install equipment in the manicure/pedicure room that day. Riposta said it’s been a lot of work to get the location ready but she’s enjoyed it.

“I’m pretty excited,” Riposta said, adding she decided to go out on her own based on her family’s “long line of self-employed people. And when you have a vision and when you’re working for someone else, you can’t make that vision your own.”

She said salon staff is well-established in the area and already have booked previous clients, with Tuesday, April 10, serving as a “soft-opening.”

Riposta said she looks forward to becoming part of the downtown community and plans to offer cross-promotion discounts through a partnership with other downtown businesses.

“We really want to get into the community feeling of downtown,” she said.

Glow is located at 134 Church St., across from Belfast City Hall. The phone number is 505-5699.
