The Poet Laureates of Belfast and Rockland will join with other poets near and far for the 10th annual Poets/Speak! event Wednesday, April 18 from 3:30 to 8 p.m. in the lecture hall of Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow St.

Poets/Speak! is one of the largest free poetry events in the state. This year will feature more than 25 well-known and emerging poets; Bangor-area high school writers; a 3:30 p.m. roundtable on Getting Published in Print & Online; and book sales and signings. the Lidral Jazz Duo will perform from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m., and there will be a celebration of 100 years since the “discovery” of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay in 1912 at the Whitehall Inn in Camden.

According to the event coordinator, Orono poet and University of Maine lecturer in English Kathleen Ellis, this year’s Poets/Speak! will include Rockland Poet Laureate Kendall Merriam and Belfast Poet Laureate Jacob Fricke; Midcoast poets Linda Buckmaster, Kristen Lindquist and Elizabeth Tibbetts; and other well-known poets such as Christian Barter, Leonore Hildebrandt, Annaliese Jakamides, Thomas Moore, Richard Miles, Lisa Panepinto, Bruce Pratt, Lee Sharkey and many others.
