Balkan power duo Cinder Conk will perform Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. at CrossTrax Restaurant and Catering, 215 Depot St.

Balkan music is the vibrant, colorful sound of Roma (Gypsy) folkdance, Yiddish and Eastern European culture, known for its haunting allure to even unfamiliar ears. In the past year, Cinder Conk has released a CD titled “Kukeri” and played nonstop, including at the renowned WDVX Blue Plate Special in Knoxville, Tenn. They have shared the stage with Slavic Soul Party, Fishtank Ensemble, Petar Ralchev and local cult favorites The Toughcats.

Though sometimes part of a larger ensemble, Cinder Conk will be playing as a duo comprised of double bass player Xar Adelberg, who used to play with Ameranouche and Five Star Loser; and accordion player Matthew Schreiber, who just spent last summer in Serbia immersed in Serbian Romani music and language.

A donation of $10 is suggested at the door. Everyone is invited to enjoy some fresh, festive music and local organic edibles. For more information, call 948-3663.
