The following is a synopsis of the 2012 Belfast Area High School girls tennis team:

Coach/years coached current team: John Cameron, 15th year.

Last year’s record: 7-5, No. 8 seed in the Eastern Class B playoffs. Fell to No. 1 Camden Hills in the quarterfinals.

Roster: Seniors Elizabeth McAvoy, Camden Crosby, Krissy Martin, Rose Hyland and Kate Howard; juniors Shashanna Moll, Makaila Gould, Kalyn Robbins, Geneva Bielenberg and Rachel Lewis; and sophomores Mariah Hurd and Ashley Keene.

Graduation losses: Rosie LaCivita, Sierra Warner and Alisha Wilson.

Team goals: To be competitive in every match and place among the top four in Eastern Class B.

Strengths: Moll is one of the top singles tennis players in the state and will be a huge asset to the Lions this season, while the doubles teams also will see “a lot more success than in the past,” said Cameron.

Top league opponents: Camden Hills, Waterville, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle and Oak Hill of Sabattus.

Outlook: The Lions qualified for the postseason last spring and could make a return this season if they can see consistent play from top to bottom, beat opponents they are capable of besting and have the occasional breakthrough against some of the league’s top schools.
