The following is a synopsis of the 2012 Belfast Area High School boys tennis team:

Coach/years coached current team: Jenny Cameron, fifth year.

Last year’s record: 6-6, No. 8 seed in the Eastern Class B playoffs. The Lions fell to No. 1 Ellsworth 5-0 in the quarterfinals.

Roster: Carson Beck, Wes Sterrs, Taylor Peabody, Jamie Jackson, Steve Hess, Francesco Caldogno, Tyler Martin, Ethan Laurel, David Flood, Hendrick Andrews, Tanner Luther and Jeremy Clapp.

Graduation losses: Jimmy Nealey and Clint Fraser.

Team goal: To be competitive in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference.

Strength: Senior leadership.

Top league opponents: Camden Hills, Waterville and Lincoln Academy of Newcastle.

Outlook: The Lions lost only two starters from last year’s team and add Jackson, a strong tennis player who joins the squad for the first time as a senior. If Belfast can beat the teams the Lions are poised to defeat and stay competitive with the conference’s elite, it could make a return trip to the regional playoffs.
