The high school boys and girls tennis seasons are only two days old for Belfast Area High School, but that bodes well for both Lion squads, which have roared out of the gate with a pair of victories.

The Lion girls earned 5-0 wins over both Winslow and Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield in road matches, while the Lions boys defended home court with a 3-2 win over the Black Raiders and a 5-0 decision over the Huskies.

Belfast 5, Winslow 0

At Winslow April 25, the Lions clawed to a victory over the winless Black Raiders. The teams played pro sets.

The individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, Shashanna Moll defeated Brittni Martel, 8-0; Makaila Gould defeated Jillian Dupuis, 8-4; and Elizabeth McAvoy defeated Brennah O’Connell, 8-5.

In doubles, Camden Crosby and Krissy Martin beat Maddie Dailey and Courtney McCastin, 8-4; and Geneva Bielenberg and Kalyn Robbins beat Lillie Pellerin and Kalanna Carpenter, 8-3.

At Pittsfield April 24, the Lions had little trouble with the host Huskies and picked up their first win of the young season.

The individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, Moll defeated Vy Dang, 6-0, 6-0; Gould defeated Lina Nguyen, 6-0, 6-1; and Mcavoy upended Emily Feng, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Crosby and Martin beat Frona Shan and Susan Shuai, 6-2 6-1; and Bielenberg and Robbins handled Candy Tran and Cindy Zhong, 6-0, 6-0.

At Belfast April 25, the Lions held off the visiting Black Raiders to pick up their second win in two days. Both of Belfast’s first two matches of the season have been of pro sets.

The individual results, with Lion players listed first, were: In singles, Carson Beck defeated Anthony Breton, 8-0; Tyler Martin fell to Aaron Carpenter, 7-9; and Taylor Peabody upended E.J. Casillian, 8-2.

In doubles, Wes Sterrs and Francesco Rasi-Caldogno beat Shane O’Connell and Brandon Deas, 8-6; and David Flood and Steve Hess lost to Skyler Henry and Graham Clark, 2-8.

At Belfast April 24, the Lions prevailed in convincing fashion over the visiting Huskies to earn their first win of the spring.

The individual results, with Lions listed first, were: In singles, Carson Beck defeated Williber Chu, 8-2; Tyler Martin defeated Krit Rejuralcic, 8-6; and Taylor Peabody bested Mike Hwang, 8-2.

In doubles, Wes Sterrs and Francesco Rasi-Caldogno beat Linh Tran and Eric Wu, 8-1; and David Flood and Steve Hess defeated John Zheng and Stanley Lee, 8-3.
