The inaugural “Bee A Buddy” 5-Kilometer Road Race will take place Saturday, May 5 at the Ames School. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about bullying.

Organizer Tara Wagner said the race, sponsored by the local parent-teacher group, is expected to become an annual event aimed at sending a message to children about standing up against bullying at their schools.

The event will kick off with a children’s fun run at 8:30 a.m., and registration for all 5K runners and walkers will be 8 to 8:45 a.m. Child care will be provided, Wagner said, and parents also can bring baby strollers along for the ride.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female 5K finishers in each age group, and the first 50 race registrants will receive a t-shirt.
