University of Maine at Farmington junior pitcher Casey Ashey of Searsport earned honorable mention distinction for NCAA Division III pitcher of the week for April 16-22 as voted by a panel of D-III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The 5-foot-8-inch, 170-pound, right-handed throwing and batting Ashey had a hand in all three of the team’s victories that week as the junior’s regular start, a 5-3 complete-game win at Lyndon State College, was bookended by saves versus Thomas College and New England College. He did not allow an earned run over 9.1 innings, with six hits allowed and seven strikeouts. He also did not allow a hit in relief.

The Beavers finished the season with an 8-28 record.

Ashey, who helped the Vikings win two state Class C titles in high school, graduated from SDHS with honors. He wears jersey number 45 for the Beavers and majors in special education.
