In March, Intro to Women’s Studies, led by adjunct University of Maine Women’s Studies faculty member Nicolle Littrell visited the State House in Augusta as part of their “Women and Politics” unit. The students were hosted by Belfast Representative Erin Herbig, who met with the students to discuss her experience as a woman working in the political domain.

She spoke about several bills and resolutions she has co-sponsored focused on women. Several of her colleagues, Rep. Megan Rochelo and Rep. Elisie Flemmings, also joined the discussion.

For most of the students, this was their first visit to the State House. The trip allowed the students to apply key course concepts regarding gender and women’s experiences to the world of State politics.
