Tango will perform in Rock City Cafe’s Velvet Lounge series Saturday, May 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. Pianist Martin Gottlieb and vocalist Kristen Burkholder specialize in songs from the Great American Songbook — the years between 1920 and 1960 when most jazz standards, classic show tunes and torch songs were born.

For this show, Tango’s themes are spring, rain, love and Paris. Tunes will include “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most” and “Isn’t This a Lovely Day,” with music by Richard Rodgers, Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter and lyrics by Dorothy Fields and Johnny Mercer, among many others.

Tango has been playing up and down the coast of Maine for six years in concerts and fundraisers, out on the streets of Belfast during summer art walks and for private parties. Burkholder also performs with The New Vaudeville Revue in Belfast and Her Majesty’s Cabaret in Bangor. To find out more about Tango and their upcoming calendar, visit tango-cabaret.com.
