Etta “Carolyn” Reichel, 86, of West Rockport died Friday, May 11, 2012, at Country Manor Nursing Home in Coopers Mills.

Born in Belfast on Oct. 31, 1924, she was the daughter of Elmer W. and Carolyn (Whiting) Perkins. She attended schools in Belfast and was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1942. Following graduation, she worked for several local attorneys, the Belfast Police Department, and in the Belfast city clerk’s office. In 1946, she married Frederick A. Reichel and they moved to Rockland where they raised their two daughters. Mrs. Reichel was employed for many years at W. C. Ladd & Sons Inc. until 1978 when they moved to Windsor. She went to work at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Togus in the Police Department, retiring in 1993. In 2001, she moved to West Rockport to be near her daughter, Sue Tolman and her family.

Mrs. Reichel was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, knitting and doing handcrafts. Her memberships included the Rockland Emblem Club 200, a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1 where she also served as past president, and was a life member of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick A. Reichel who died in 1983. Surviving are her two daughters, Ann Bridges and her husband, Rocky, of Embden and Sue Tolman and her husband, Richard, of West Rockport; four grandchildren, Kathy Moody and her husband, Alan, of Whitefield, N.H., Allen Tolman of Falmouth, Toby Bridges and his wife, Tonia, of Monson, Mass., and Lori Creamer and her husband, Eric, of Embden; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Creamer, Cody Bridges and Abigale Bridges; a brother, Elmer W. Perkins of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. Private burial will be held in the Rockville Cemetery in Rockport at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Knox County, P.O.
