May 5 proved a day 11-year-old Dean Grass will never forget.

In a Waldo County Little League game against Winterport Green, Grass, who plays for Morrill, pitched a perfect game in a 4-0 win in the team’s third game of the season at Searsport.

Grass threw 66 pitches and recorded a whopping 15 strikeouts of the 18 batters he faced. He also retired two of the remaining three outs on ground balls back to the mound.

A perfect game constitutes a pitcher retiring every batter he/she faces while also allowing no walks. Doing so while also walking batters would constitute a no-hitter.

It was the second start of the year for Grass, who struck out 13 in his first outing of the spring — a win against Brooks.

It was the second perfect game thrown in Waldo County youth baseball in two weeks. Stanley Sturgis Jr. tossed a perfect game in the Belfast-Northport-Swanville Cal Ripken League April 21.
