Elitsa Stoyneva, seven-time Gold medalist Bulgarian folk singer, will perform in concert with the Maine Women’s Balkan Choir and the Waldo County-based West of the Penobscot Balkan Singers Saturday, June 2 at 7 p.m. at Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, 44 Kennebec Road.

The old world celebration offers a chance to experience the hauntingly beautiful music and festive cuisine of Bulgaria. Suggested donation is $10, $5 for students, which includes delicious Bulgarian food.

Stoyneva has performed at national and international competitions and concerts throughout Bulgaria as well as in Egypt, Switzerland, Greece, Canada and the United States. She made her US debut in Maine in 2006 and since has performed numerous times throughout Maine, Washington, D.C. and Toronto with Trio Elitsa and the Maine Women’s Balkan Choir. She has spent three summers in Bar Harbor, where she directed the Maine Women’s Balkan Choir and taught voice technique.
