Carver Memorial Library has been awarded a $2,300 grant from the Maine Community Foundation. The grant will fund a professionally-facilitated board development process designed to support the Carver Memorial Library Association in its work.

Since its founding in 1910, the library has been governed by a volunteer board of trustees. Carver Memorial is a full-service library. Its use has increased almost 250% over the past 10 years.

Maintaining the library and managing rapid growth presents many challenges for a small organization. The board development process will support the Association’s efforts to ensure that the library meets the needs of the community it serves, and can navigate the ongoing economic, technological and social changes all public libraries face.

The grant was made from the Saxifrage Opportunity Grants Fund, at the recommendation of the Waldo County Fund advisers. More information is available at the Maine Community Foundation website at

Carver Memorial Library is located at the corner of Union Street and Mortland Road in Searsport. For information, visit the library’s website at, or call 548-2303.
