For the second consecutive year, First Church UCC will offer a series of once-a-month Sunday Concerts June through October in the acoustically gifted sanctuary of the church, 104 Church St. The 3 p.m. concerts are a free community service of the church, although donations are welcome.

The series will begin June 24 with the Mark Tipton Trio, a jazz combo led by trumpeter Mark Tipton, who teaches at Colby College, the University of Southern Maine and the Portland Conservatory of Music.

Sunday Concerts will continue through the season with pianist Anastacia Antonacos July 29; piano/flute duo Barbara Kemp and Karen Hawthorne Aug. 19; pianist Jared Fischer Sept. 23; and the Portland String Quartet Oct. 14. Fischer opened last year’s inaugural series to an audience of 200.

Handicap accessible entrance and restrooms are located on Spring and Court streets. Friends of Sunday Concerts and Patrons are needed to continue to offer these summer concerts. Those interested are invited to call series coordinator Ron Dow, choir director and organist at First Church, at 323-0186.
