A traditional shape note singing is held the second Monday of every month in First Church Fellowship Hall, between Church and Court streets (entrance on Spring Street). This month’s singing will run 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 11.

This form of energetic four-part unaccompanied singing dates from Colonial New England and also is know as “Sacred Harp” singing. Books are available for loan and purchase. The singing is open to all, and newcomers are most welcome.

Upcoming is the three-day 11th annual Maine Singing, scheduled for July 27 through 29 in Bristol and Union. For more information, call 338-1265 or 594-5743.
