The Maine-produced web series “Ragged Isle” returns for its second season after a very well received first go around. The series, produced by Belfast Area High School grads Barry and Karen Dodd, won five major international awards including Best Director (Barry Dodd) and Best Series from The Indie Soap awards in New York City; and also Best Thriller and Best Supporting Actor (Rick Dalton) from the well-established online Indie Intertube awards.

“Ragged Isle” is a collaboration of Maine artists from all over the state including writers, actors and musicians. The Dodds, a Gorham-based husband and wife duo, began principal photography on the series’ first season in July 2010 and wrapped shooting seasons two and three in November 2011. The second season premiered online on May 30.

Drawing inspiration from such cult classics as “The X-Files,” “Twin Peaks” and the gothic soap opera “Dark Shadows,” “Ragged Isle” has been crafted with genre fans in mind. With more than 40 talented actors and more than 30 picturesque Maine locations — including the Midcoast, it is an ambitious project. The entire first season was viewed at the KahBang Music and Art Festival in Bangor last year as the focus of the MaineStream category.

“We never imagined when we set out to create Ragged Isle that it would have had such a wide appeal. It’s been very exciting to hear from fans across the globe especially when they say that they’d love to come to Maine and see where we shot ‘Ragged Isle.’ We’re so lucky to live in this beautiful and mysterious state,” said Barry Dodd.
