It has been an exciting inaugural year for the Belfast-Northport-Swanville Cal Ripken youth baseball league, and it all came down to one final game to crown the champion.

The top-seeded Giants and No. 2 Yankees squared off for the second straight day Tuesday night, June 19, with the league crown on the line, and the Giants persevered, winning their second game in two days with a 14-10 victory to claim the title.

The Giants had defeated the Yankees 10-7 June 18 to force the winner-take-all final in the double-elimination playoffs.

The Yankees had pulled a mild upset over the Giants earlier in the playoffs to put the top seed in the unfamiliar position of having to win twice to capture the crown in the double-elimination playoffs.

The Yankees defeated the No. 3 Indians 5-2 and bested the No. 1 Giants 9-5 to advance to the championship round, while the Giants beat the No. 4 Angels 12-0 in four innings, lost to the Giants and then defeated the No. 3 Indians 17-5 in five innings to advance via the loser’s bracket.

Information from Tuesday’s final game was unavailable, but will be added later if it become available.
