Two Midcoast residents, Kristen Lindquist of Camden and Andrea Rouillard of Waldo, were honored as they were awarded University of Maine certificates. Both students completed coursework and requirements for the University of Maine certificate in nonprofit management through its Belfast branch, the Hutchinson Center.

Both began the program two years ago and, taking a variety of classes, completed the program this June. The certificate in nonprofit management is a resource for preparing and coaching people who are working in nonprofits. This program gives participants the opportunity to network with others working in similar fields and learn from experienced and seasoned professionals.

The next session in the 2012 certificate program is financial management in the nonprofit organization. It will be held on Friday,July 20, with areas to be covered to include approaches to budgeting, necessary recordkeeping, monitoring cash flow, understanding the balance sheet and segregating duties in a small office (safeguarding assets).

He earned an MBA from the University of Maine, Orono, worked in public accounting and private industry and has over 30 years’ experience in nonprofit administration and financial management.

Upon completion of six of the workshops that comprise the program, individuals will earn a certificate in nonprofit organization management from the University of Maine Hutchinson Center.
