The weather could not have been better July 7 for the seventh annual Hope Triathlon with more than 100 participants looking to swim, pedal and sprint to a successful finish in an event centered around Hobbs Pond.

Scott Layton, 36, proved the toughest of all, as he set a course record, finishing the triathlon in one hour, three minutes and two seconds.

The sprint triathlon, made more difficult by the hilly terrain in Hope, was hosted for the first time by the Penobsot Bay YMCA.

The event included a one-quarter mile swim in Hobbs Pond, a 13-mile bike ride and a 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) run in and around Hope.
