In conjunction with its 60th anniversary celebration, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art will host the 35th annual benefit art auction and dinner Sunday, July 29 at Point Lookout in Northport. Kaja Veilleux of Thomaston Place Auction Galleries will serve as auctioneer for the event. Tickets for the auction and dinner are $125, available by calling 236-2875.

A preview of the auction’s art work will open with a 5 to 7 p.m. reception Saturday, July 14 at CMCA, 162 Russell Ave. A gallery talk by CMCA director Suzette McAvoy will begin 6 p.m.

Over six decades, CMCA has exhibited the work of hundreds of artists connected to Maine, and its annual benefit art auction has come to be recognized as the premier contemporary art event in the state, attracting collectors and supporters from throughout Maine and beyond. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the participating artists and galleries, CMCA is once again offering an outstanding group of 100 works of art for sale.

Among the artists who have contributed works are Jeffery Becton, John Bisbee, Katherine Bradford, Tillman Crane, Lois Dodd, Linden Frederick, Harold Garde, Charlie Hewitt, Alison Hildreth, William Irvine, Yvonne Jacquette, Frederick Lynch, Alex Katz, Colin Page, Dennis Pinette, Peter Ralston, Susan Van Campen, Mark Wethli, Todd Watts and Nancy Wissemann-Widrig. All of the proceeds from the auction benefit CMCA’s exhibitions and education programs.

The auction works are available for viewing at CMCA in the exhibition “Art to Collect Now,” which will be on view through Saturday, July 28. To view the auction works online, visit A fully illustrated auction catalog, with text by Deborah Weisgall, accompanies the exhibition.
