A classic small boat show will be part of this year’s Belfast Harbor Fest to be held at Steamboat Landing in Belfast Saturday, Aug. 18.

Builders and owners of traditional small boats that are trailerable or car-toppable are invited to exhibit and be eligible for awards for boats that showcase the traditions of the region’s maritime heritage and skills.

The show is open to owners and professional and amateur builders of small craft, such as sailboats, rowing boats, launches and other pleasure and working boats. The boats should be under 25 feet in length.

Exhibitors may sell their boats and are encouraged to demonstrate boat building techniques to the public. Commercial boat builders will be charged $25 to exhibit, but all other boats are free.

To register as a boat exhibitor, contact Ed Williams at 338-2616 or by email, etwilliams@msn.com; or go to www.belfastharborfest.com to download an application.

The Belfast Harbor Fest begins Friday night with a launch party put on by Marshall Wharf Brewery with live music and refreshments for purchase. There is a $10 cover charge for the launch party.

Saturday, in addition to the classic small boat show, there will be a 5K road race, a blueberry pancake breakfast, the National Boatbuilding Challenge, children’s nautical activities, Come Boating’s 11th Annual Regatta, exhibits, vendors and live music. There is a $4 charge for the breakfast, but otherwise admission on Saturday is free.

On Sunday, Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County will hold a Habitat Lobster Gala fundraiser. Tickets for lobster (or steak), clams, corn on the cob, chips and homemade pies are $25 each. They are available by calling the Habitat office at 338-2344 or from board members.
