A traditional shape note singing is held the second Monday of every month in First Church Fellowship Hall, between Church and Court streets (entrance on Spring Street). This month’s singing will run 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13.
This form of energetic four-part unaccompanied singing dates from Colonial New England and also is know as “Sacred Harp” singing. Books are available for loan and purchase. The singing is free, open to all and newcomers are most welcome. Reports will be shared about the recent 11th annual Maine Singing. For more information, call 338-1265 or 594-5743.
